Herman Wold medal in gold

Medaljen delas ut till forskare som gjort avgörande insatser inom kemometriområdet avseende metodutveckling, banbrytande applikationer alternativt för främjande av kemometrins pedagogik och spridning i världen Medaljen i guld utdelas av tradition vartannat år på Scandinavian Symposium on Chemometrics, SSC, möten.

The sixth Herman Wold medal was awarded to Professor Olav Kvalheim, Institute of Chemistry , Bergen University , Bergen, Norway during the 9th Scandinavian Symposium on Chemometrics, SSC9, held in Reykjavik, Iceland , August 2005.In 1995, the Herman Wold medal was founded by the Chemometrics Division of the Swedish Chemical Society to highlight important advances in chemometrics. The recipient of the medal should be a person who has contributed significantly to the development and proliferation of chemometrics in research, development and production. In addition, this should be done ‘in the spirit of Herman Wold’.

On 15 June , at the conference banquet of the fourth Scandinavian Symposium on Chemometrics, Professor Svante Wold was awarded the Herman Wold Medal. This medal was founded by the chemometrics section of the Swedish Chemical Society in memory of Professor Herman Weld, Svante’s father and tutor in statistics. Svante Wold is the first recipient of the Herman Weld medal. On the same occasion, Svante Wold was appointed honorary chairman of the chemometrics section of the Swedish Chemical Society.

In connection with the 7th Scandinavian Symposium on Chemometrics, SSC7, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, August 2001, Professor John F. MacGregor, Department of Chemical Engineering, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, was awarded the fourth Herman Wold medal.Previous recipients - in chronological order - have been Svante Wold, Agnar Höskuldsson and Harald Martens. The recipient of the Herman Wold medal, appointed by the Swedish Chemical Society, should be a person who has contributed significantly to the development and proliferation of chemometrics both inside academia and industry. And, to quote the qualification description of the medal, this should be done in the 'spirit of Herman Wold'.

Professor Rolf Carlson, the fifth Herman Wold medal awardee: a pioneer in design of experiments and multivariate data analysis in organic chemistry. The Chemometrics Division of the Swedish Chemical Society in 1995 founded the Herman Wold medal to highlight important and useful advances in chemometrics. The recipient of the medal should be a person who has contributed significantly to the development and proliferation of chemometrics in research, development and production. And, to quote the qualification description of the medal, this should be done ‘in the spirit of Herman Wold’. It has become a tradition that the winner of the Herman Wold medal is announced at a meeting in the biennial series of SSC conferences (Scandinavian Symposium on Chemometrics).
